حدث يعود الى خريف عام 1952 : الملك فاروق وعائلته يصلون في حافلة الى فيلا ``لو بالم ' في سانتا مارينيلا.
خبر صغير نشر في صحيفة سيدني مورنينج هيرالد في 15 أكتوبر 1952 ذكر ان الملك وعائلته سوف يغادرون كابري في ذلك اليوم متجهين الي سانتا مارينلا حيث سوف يقيمون كضيوف في فيلا لو بالم وهي فندق صغير عادة ما يغلق في فصل الشتاء ولذلك لن يقيم اي ضيوف اخرون مع الملك وعائلته في الفندق. سجلت اثنين من النشرات اخبارية وصول الملك للفندق: واحدة طويلة ولكنها ذات صورة غير واضحة وهي من انتاج

.لقد مزجت النشرتين وشاهدت لقطات منهما بالحركة البطيئة للحصول علي اكبر قدر من المعلومات عن الملك فاروق في المنفي وهي فترة من حياته قليلة المصادر.
في اللقطة الاولي نري الملك فاروق وهو ينزل من الحافلة بينما تسبقه الملكة ناريمان التي نري جزءا من وجهها فقط في مقدمة الشاشة. اثناء نزوله من الحافلة يحاول الملك فاروق الابتسام الي كاميرات المصورين المحيطة به ولكننا لا نري الا شبح ابتسامة قصيرة لا يمكن مقارنتها مع ضحكة الملك العفوية المعروفة في صور اخري.
في الخلفية يمكن رؤية مربية الملك فؤاد الثاني وهي تحمل الملك الرضيع . من المكن ايضاتميز بنات الملك واصيلة هانم ام الملكة ناريمان وهم مازالوا في الحافلة. في اللقطة التالية نري الملك فاروق وهو يقف علي الجانب الايمن من باب الحافلة. من الواضح اذا ان الملك بعد ان راي عدد الصحفين المتجمهرين في الخارج قد عاد ادراجه لكي يؤمن دخول بناته الي الفيلا دون مضايقات الصحفين .
يضيئ فلاش احد الكاميرات المشهد لجزء من الثانية فيتضح لنا ان الملك يشير بيده الي من في الحافلة بالنزول
نري في لقطة تالية الاميرتين فريال وفاديىه في المقدمة وهمل يسرعان بالدخول الي المنزل بينما تنظر الاميرة الصغيرة فادية الي عدسة الكاميرا في فضول
هنا يقوم الملك فاروق بحركة سريعة ربما فاتت انتباه المشاهد فهو يدفع الاميرة فوزية التي مازالت تسير خلفه الي المقدمة متخطيا بذلك اصيلة هانم . اذا تمت مشاهدة هذا المشهد بالحركة البطيئة فانه من الممكن ملاحظة ان حماة الملك فوجئت بتصرفه وانزعجت منه. ولكنه علي اي حال انزعاج قصير لم يدم غير جزء من الثاني
اللقطات التلية واضحة وبطيئة ولا تحتاج الي شرح مفصل فهي ترينا مناظر اخري لملك وعائلته داخل الفندق بينما تطاردهم الكاميرات في كل مكان وتتجول الكاميرا داخل غرف الفندق وشرفاته .....غير اني لي ملاحظةواحدة علي الفندق الذي نزل فيه الملك: فبرغم من جمال موقعه علي البحر مباشرة الا ان غرفه كانت صغيرة وبسيطة للغاية. وهنا اتسائل حقا مالذي دفع الملك لاختيار هذه المدينة الصغيرة ذات الامكانات المحدودة لاقامته? مدينة سانتا مارينلا تقع علي بعد ٦٠ كيلومتر الي الشمال من روما ولا يتعدي عدد سكانها حتي اليوم ١٧٠٠٠ نسمة فهل كان اختيار الملك لها راجعا لهدوئها ام لانخفاض تكاليف الفنادق والعقارات فيها?
لااحب وضع ملفات صوتية عادة مع الافلام الاخبارية ولكني وضعت في هذه الحالة اغنية رحلة الي الماضي لان كلماتها تناسب سياق الاحداث

An event going back to the autumn of 1952: King Farouk and his family are arriving in a bus to villa 'Le Palme' in Santa Marinella. A little news published in The Sydney morning Herald in the 15th of October 1952 stated that the king and his family will leave Capri in that day and will take residence as the only guests in Le Palme, a small hotel which is usually closed during the winter. Two newsreels recorded the king’s arrival to Le Palme: a long but unclear one captured by British Pathe and a shorter but clearer newsreel, a copy write of Getty images. When put together many small details about the exiled king and his small family can be noticed. I played the shoots in slow motion to get the most of them and below is the summery.
The first shoot shows king Farouk stepping out of the bus while queen Nariman, a part of whose face is visible, is preceding him. As he reaches the outside of the vehicle, Farouk tries to smile to the media but we only see a ghost of a bitter smile on his lips, with a very enforced impression and not to be compared to his well known spontaneous laughs in other footage. Behind him, the nurse of the infant king is clearly visible carrying the baby in her arms. In the background the rest of the family is seen: the three daughters of king Farouk and Asila Hanem, the mother of queen Nariman, are all still inside the bus while the flashes of cameras shine on their faces making them more visible.
The next shoot shows king Farouk standing on the right side of the bus door waiting for the descend of the rest of the family. A camera flash lights the scene for a portion of a second and we see king Farouk pointing with his hand for someone in the bus to get down. Obviously he waited there until his girls got out of the bus to make sure they entered the house safely with no harassment from the journalists. He must have been really tense since a whole shoot shows how the situation was chaotic and how journalists were crowded very near to the king and his family.
We see later the whole family entering the outer gate of the house: princess Farial at the front is followed by the little princess Fadia who looks with curiosity directly in to the camera of the photographer. Here we see king Farouk, who had been preceding his daughters in the previous shoot, walking behind them. He even draws Princess Fawzia who is still behind him to the front pushing her by a gentle movement of his arm to proceed Asila Hanem. If you play the video here in slow motion you will notice that the old lady was not very content about the king’s movement! But it was a very short glimpse of dissatisfaction that went unnoticed. Italian policemen were securing the passing of the king and one of them draws a photographer aside from the king’s way.
The newsreel goes on to show king Farouk standing at the entrance of the building joking friendly with two men who seem to be the hotel managers. Queen Nariman is seen for a short glimpse too. There are many shoots of the family inside the hotel. In one scene the two governess of king Fuad II are taking a walk in the garden but they retreat as they find that the camera men are photographing them . One of them even waves to the photographers to stop interfering. Queen Nariman, the infant king Fuad in pram and two daughters of king Farouk are going through the garden as well but the presence of camera men does not seem to disturb them this time.
The rest of the newsreel shows scenes from the hotel where the king and his family stayed. Obviously the hotel owners encouraged journalists to take views of the premises to make promotion for their place. Though the villa occupies a beautiful location directly on the sea, the rooms are quite small and extremely simple. This is off course to be expected since Santa Marillena is a small city whose population, till nowadays, does not exceed 17,000 residents.
It is well known that king Farouk spent the first years of his exile in Santa Marillena, but I am still searching as to how long king Farouk stayed in villa 'Le Palme'. Was this the same villa he bought and took as a house later?
The song is (a journey to the past). I usually prefer to play newsreels with no soundtracks but I found the words of this song fit somehow the context.
